He loves and she loves.

Another movie inspired post. How predictable I am. After watching Holiday Inn (a christmas favorite) I was in the mood for some good old Fred Astaire, hence me spending the night watching Funny Face. It has everything I could ever want in a movie, some obscure plot revolving around fashion, old bookstores, Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire, the 1950's version of Anna Wintour, oh yeah Fred Astaire, singing, Edith Head. FRED ASTAIRE! You get my point. Anyway, I spent the entire movie drooling over Audrey Hepburn's "not fashion-y" outfit. It consisted of a black turtle neck, cigarette pants, and penny loafers, and at some point a simple camel trench. It was so un-frilly and wasn't swaddled in pink bows I surprised myself ( though the frilly and swaddled outfits in the movie were fantastic thanks Edith) I'm craving some of that penny loafer action thats going on.

Autumn winds blow chilly and cold.

My wonderful Uncle Max, my mother and I all jumbled into the car and went for a road trip out to Maine. We were visiting my equally wonderful Aunt,Uncle, and Grandmother. My mother also is thinking about realizing her life long dream of running a motel. (That was her life long dream? Nobody ever told me that....Anyway don't worry it's not going to happen. I hope.) Wearing: Vintage 50's dress, Vintage "casual skips," 70's sweater, Vintage fur and wool coat.

Hooray, Part One

I do not have words for how much I love my bathing suit. Remember when I said I got a surprise from Good And Maggies? Well, this is it. I Just didn't want to post pictures before I got to wear it in the water.

This is completely a coincidence. It has nothing to do with ehmm James Dean.. Erm nothing at all.

One of my many obsessions is the 50's. (Thought I was going to say James Dean, right?) Being as interested in Men's fashion from the 50's as I am it was inevitable that I would stumble across Rebel Without A Cause. I had to watch it. It was calling me with its example of 50's teen fashion, and troubled youth of today plot, and JAMES DEAN.
This is my blog, So if I want to thoroughly embarrass myself I might as well do it here. Picture above is a story about power in the hands of the wrong people. I should not have access to photo-shop. Bad things happen-(like picture above). Also look at my flowing locks of gorgeous hair that should not be legal.
The original still (before I destroyed it for my own purposes) was from East of Eden. Adapted from the Steinbeck novel. Which I also enjoyed. I liked that movie 'bout as much as Rebel Without a Cause, I liked James Dean's outfits more in Rebel though. Well, I think I have humiliated myself enough! (GO JAMES DEAN)----the end.

Oh well, I love you gal and I want you Peggy Sue!

Road Trip! So, normally you wouldn't equate IT/nerdyness/step dad/ with vintage fashions. I love my step dad and since I do it means I have to relentlessly torture him and make fun of him. Ah, what a wonderful and kind stepdaughter I am, But my step dad graciously offered to take me to Connecticut (where some of my favorite haunts are.) Of course I leaped at the offer, Even though I did ponder what Chrissy-poo would do as I surveyed the frilly pink 50's evening dresses! We went to Good and Maggie's which I love.(Christophee drifted outdoors and walked around on the grass. One can only take so many lace covered tea dresses.)

The store owner remembers me and she is SO helpful and kind. Well I ended up spending only 30 bucks! (Conveniently what I just made from babysitting) I got a 50's-60's paisley dress, for 5 dollars!!!! (shown in picture above) 50's cat-eye glasses frames (also 5 dollars!). I love freaking people out with them. They get so confused when I stick my fingers through the place where the lenses would be! And finally a surprise~Shhh I can't tell you yet! My step dad thinks my glasses create a dual personality, and my alias he says should be Eunice. I disagree I think it should be Peggy Sue! Imagine if I was Eunice... Ethel and Cathy would make fun of me!

Beach Blanket biiingggoooo- that's the name of the game!

So, the classic conundrum... Bathing suits! They always seem to look so good but never off of the rack. It's the price or the fit or the style. Why can't we all exude elegance and sophistication and an overall air of SEXAYNESS like the classic 50's girls. I'm going to sound old and grandmotherly (though my Grandma is awesome so this is more of an insult to her then to me..) but really these bathingsuit aren't skimpy or stringy or look like they are going to fall off. No, they cover a lot more and I personally think they are much more "sexy" than bathingsuits of today. Sorry for the strange picture set up... ): I'm going to shop around and hopefully I'll have something to show for my bathing suit efforts! Wish me luck!

i love you a bushel and a peck

t

I had the good fortune of being in our schools 8th grade production of Guys and Dolls. I was one of the hotbox girls. I can't really act nor sing and I'm most likely the worst dancer on the planet, but if there is one thing i'm good at it's clothes! I got to help design the hotbox girls "bushel and a peck" costumes. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of those but I have some of my other costumes. I loved mine it was a gorgeous vintage print dress! Also I was to lazy to crop any of these pictures and it felt weird to crop out my fellow castmates so your just going to have to deal with the random pictures. <3
so yet another old image....

our love remains

I'm graduating middle school today. Big deal. Honestly. Anyshroom this is the outfit I wore today to celebrate. These pictures are from me and my fellow graduates walking around the school hugging various objects and persons going I REMEMBER THIS EXIT SIGN AND OHHHHH I LOVED THIS STAIRWELL! We also accidently scared some small children off the playground. One of the brave ones that remained told me she liked my dress. It's good to be approved of by 2nd graders.

you're breaking my heart You're shaking my confidence daily

Sorry, my formal apologies. I don't post as often as I should from now on I will post every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Besides that I went to Maine yesterday. I ventured far from my usual haunts (the goodwill around the corner) to another goodwill 120 miles away. I'm unimaginative in a weird way. I met up with some family and we traipsed to a couple of thrift stores. I guess the pictures explain the rest.
(incase you want further explanation)

vintage silk bowties
vintage nude heels
Posts of me wearing these in outfits to come soon.

You are now entering the twilight zone.....

My dad's birthday is coming up. So I decided to send him a surprise. I don't live with my dad I live with my mom and step-dad, so if i don't tell my dad about the surprise he would have no way to find out about it before it gets there. So the surprise is this fantastic pair of white 80's men's shoes. They were perfect after I washed the grime off them (found in thrift store)
But I didn't want to stop it at just that! I took a fine point sharpie and doodled all over them. My father has a penchant for the candy Peanut Chew's so i drew the logo on them. Also if I'm already bragging I drew a purdy dandy Twilight zone thingy on them! Also this is the outfit i wore yesterday.

Agnes b leather vest
leggings
docs
really really old wool army/farm shirt.
dads hat
bow tie
My uncle Micheal's leather jacket. He got it in England when he was young. I feel so happy that i was gifted it! I'm lucky!
P.S i don't know why the pictures say that they are from 2008.... Something messed up with the camera? or maybe iphoto?

Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Some more fabulous thrift store finds. A vintage 80's Betsey Johnson dress. (GAHHHHH! Amazingness) Worn with a red belt, velvet shoes, and a vintage suede red bag with a zipper across the front. (I got the bag awhile ago and haven't found what to wear it with.) I paired the silk pastel pink pants (I mentioned them earlier on the blog) with a cummerbund and bow tie that i bought in a set together for 2.99, and a lace shirt. The first picture was for photography class. It was supposed to have a color theme hence the red.

I've read this issue so much it's getting worn out. (ohhhh that wasn't funny ):)

I got a subscription to this magazine for Christmas and boy oh boy was i a happy 13 year old camper! Worn is chock full of interesting articles and intriguing outfits. I love the interview with Johnathan Walford and Kenn Norman. The fashion collectors talk about how they became interested in fashion and (gasp) their dislike of Chanel. Which personally disagree with but anywhoo, my favorite article was Beauty As Duty which was about the second world war and how it affected fashion. I can't wait for the next issue and I'll post about it when I get it! PROMISE!
